Principal's Message

I’m excited to welcome you to Riverstone School! Whether you’re a student, parent, or a member of our community, I’m glad you’re here.

We continue to strive to be a part of an outstanding growing community; it continues to be important to take the time to get to know one another and build solid relationships.

As Principal of Riverstone, I would like to share my background with you. I was born and raised in Grande Prairie. I have been with the Grande Prairie Public School District for many years, first as a student and then as a teacher beginning in 2002. Having taught grades 7 through 11, I appreciate the energy students bring to the school. For the last 12 years, I have been in administration and have had the wonderful opportunity to engage with students in grades K through 8, including: three years at Aspen Grove School, two years at Alexander Forbes the Academy, and now eight years at Riverstone.

In the education world, I received my B.Ed. through the University of Alberta. Further to that I completed my Masters in Education with a focus on Teacher Leadership in 2010 through Walden University.

With a strong connection to Grande Prairie, I greatly appreciate the importance of ensuring that school is a safe and energizing place to be. We have a wonderfully committed team of professionals who daily model their own commitment to learning and exploring with your children. I welcome each student and their family to our school, for after all, it is this partnership of family and school working together that makes our community fabulous.

Please be sure to consider attending our School Council meetings or volunteering for the many wonderful events that they support.

If you're new to the school boundary area and are looking for a school - come talk to me or to my administrative partners, Mr. Brian Mayea and Mrs. Cherish Slobodian.

Soaring Together,
Ms. Jill Burgess

At Riverstone Public School we...

… are excited to serve children within formal boundaries of the GPPSD including, Countryside North, Signature Falls, Creekside, Cobblestone, and Riverstone. We also have students attending our school from the recently annexed areas in the northeast region around Grande Prairie. We continue to offer KinderPAL program. KinderPAL is an early learning program of choice for kindergarten-age students. The program provides an all-day – everyday learning where a child has regular kindergarten programming from a certified teacher for half a day and the other half is the KinderPAL experience; play and learn. Additionally, the YMCA offers onsite: KinderCare, Younger Years, in addition to before and after school programs. Our School Council and the Riverstone Playground Association are extremely active and visible in the school. Council meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and are instrumental in supporting our efforts to achieve excellence in education and foster responsible citizenship.

We emphasize academic success for all students while providing a wide range of learning experiences. In addition to our core classes, we offer complementary courses including French as a Second Language (Grades 4 to 8), and a variety of option classes for Grade 7 and 8 students. Many students have embraced opportunities and expressed interest in extracurricular sports teams and clubs. Up to this point we offer the following sports teams: triple-ball, volleyball, curling, and basketball. We will also offer badminton, soccer, and track for our junior high students.

Become part of our community as we become a part of yours!
